History of Colony First, in 1663 South Carolina was founded. Second, it was founded by 8 noblemen with a royal charter, sent by King Charles the second. Next, it was founded because people heard rumors that south from Virginia it was "fruitful and pleasant." Soon, around the 1650's some people decided to move to South Carolina. Before (1663-1712), South Carolina and North Carolina were one big colony. Later in 1712 South Carolina became it's own big colony. In 1720 South Carolina was introduced to slavery. About 65% slaves are African Americans. In 1729 South Carolina was considered a royal colony. May 23, 1788, South Carolina was changed to being a state. |
